Wang Dongming, the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s legislature, the National People’s Congress (NPC), paid a courtesy call on Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Monday as he embarks on an official visit that he says is aimed at strengthening the partnership between Male’ and Beijing.
Wang is heading a delegation of senior officials from the NPC on an official visit to the Maldives.

The delegation arrived in Male’ on Sunday, and paid a courtesy call on President Muizzu at his office on Monday morning.
During the meeting, President Muizzu expressed his sincere appreciation to Chinese President Xi Jinping for his continued support and generosity, which he said has contributed significantly to the Maldives’ economic and social development.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to further strengthening relations with China across multiple sectors, based on the mutual trust and a long-standing friendship between the two countries.
He also highlighted China’s assistance in key development initiatives, including major infrastructure projects.
According to the President’s Office, discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing Maldives–China relations, exploring new avenues for cooperation, and strengthening existing partnerships.
Key areas of collaboration discussed during the meeting included housing and infrastructure, fisheries and agriculture, tourism, connectivity, information technology, and trade.

Both sides also noted the numerous Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements signed during President Muizzu’s visits to China earlier this year, and expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing projects.
During the meeting, Wang highlighted on the friendly ties between the two countries, which he said have been further elevated by the President Muizzu’s visits to China.

He said that the purpose of the delegation’s visit was to strengthen the partnership between Maldives and China for the benefit of both countries and their peoples.
He also reiterated China’s commitment to the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement signed between the two countries, and expressed China’s support for the development priorities of the Maldives.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening Maldives–China relations to deliver tangible outcomes that benefit both countries.
Following his meeting with President Muizzu, Wang and other Chinese delegates paid a courtesy call on Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the Speaker of Maldivian Parliament.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Maldivian Parliament.
The NPC is the largest legislative body in the world, with over 2,000 members.
