Maldives Welcomes France’s Decision to Recognise the State of Palestine

The Maldives has welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement of France’s intention to recognise the State of Palestine.
On Thursday, French President Macron stated that France would officially recognise Palestine as a sovereign state. In a post on X, he said the decision would be formalised at the United Nations General Assembly in September. In his post, he underscored the urgent need to end the war in Gaza and protect the civilian population.
In response, the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the announcement, and urged all countries that have not yet recognised Palestine as a state to support the Palestinian people in their legitimate pursuit of an independent and sovereign state.
The Palestinians seek an independent state comprising the occupied West Bank, annexed east Jerusalem and Gaza, territories that Israel occupied in the 1967 Middle East war.
