Local Government Authority (LGA) has launched an inquiry into the Thinadhoo City Council following some complaints received about them.
A letter sent from LGA to Thinadhoo City Mayor Saudh Ali states that the decision to commence the inquiry was made on March 2.
With this, a team from LGA has travelled to Thinadhoo yesterday to conduct the inquiry. The team will be in the city until March 13.
The team includes LGA's Director, two Assistant Directors, Senior Systems Analyst, Auditor, and Assistant Legal Officer.
Before the inquiry was commenced, LGA's team met with the Mayor and Secretary General of the Thinadhoo Council and outlined how the work would be conducted.
In January, the Anti Corruption Commission, too, entered Thinadhoo Council officers and seized some material in relation to a case they are investigating against the council.
Also in January, the council announced seeking applications for the island's 200 housing units, which the Housing Ministry asked them to cancel citing it is not within the council's mandate.
Earlier, Thinadhoo council also made a decision to charge an MVR 5000 fee from Thinadhoo residents who wish to change their registry to another island. LGA's Board ruled that this is against the law.
ACC did not disclose details of the cases being investigated against Thinadhoo Council. However, it has been reported that they include six separate cases of corruption.
