Will ensure Nasheed is not in Male

Former Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam has said that he will ensure that former President Mohamed Nasheed departs from Male’ for the trip planned by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to the south of Maldives, on the day the trial against Nasheed, pertaining to the illegal arrest of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdullah Mohamed, is scheduled to commence.
Speaking at a meeting held by MDP at Usfasgandu last night to prepare for today’s protest, Aslam said that MDP will not be treated fairly by any Maldivian Court.
“Nasheed will participate in our trip to the south on 1 October. MDP members will ensure that he is onboard. We are prepared to do the necessary to get him onboard. We are willing to sacrifice, to ensure that Nasheed does not lose his presidential candidacy. We will not give in. We are prepared follow Nasheed to prison,” he said.
The trial against Nasheed will commence at 16:00 on Monday, 1 October. Nasheed has accepted the Court summon notification. The Court has prohibited Nasheed from travelling outside Male’, as per normal procedure for scheduled trials.
Aslam said that unless MDP takes to the streets, Nasheed will lose his presidential candidacy, the party will lose its Parliament Members, and the party’s ideology will disappear.
