ACC looks into case where allowance was provided without holding committee meetings

Anti-Corruptions Commission (ACC) has commenced assessing the case of Parliament Committee Members being provided allowances of Rf20,000 for the month of March, when no committee meetings were held.
“The case has been submitted by a private party, and we are looking into it. A decision will be made within the week,” ACC President Hassan Luthfee said.
Parliament’s Financial Committee made the decision last Wednesday to provide an allowance of Rf20,000 to every committee member for March.
Hulhumeedhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb, Alifushi MP Mohamed Nashiz, Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed, Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem voted in favor of providing the allowance, while Vilifhushi MP Riyaz Rasheed, Kulhudhuffushi North MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa and Vaikaradhoo MP Ali Arif voted against it.
The committee meeting where media was asked to leave before the voting took place, was chaired by Bilaydhoo MP Ahmed Hamza.
A total of Rf1.5m will be spent for the 76 committee members for March.
The committee did not hold any meetings in March due to the delay caused by MDP’s obstruction of the Presidential speech, and damage caused to Parliament equipment.
