The legal team of the now detained former President Mohamed Nasheed had said they will be appealing in High Court to nullify the arrest warrant issued by Criminal Court for President Nasheed on terrorism charges.
Hisaan Hussain، a member of Nasheed’s legal team told Raajje TV that they are trying to appeal the case in High Court tonight، however، have not received any response from the court.
The first hearing of Nasheed’s terrorism case had been tabled at 16:00 on Monday at the Criminal Court.
Hisaan said the charges pressed against Nasheed came unannounced and the case wasn’t notified to President Nasheed.
While the arrest warrant for Nasheed said he was arrested as ‘he might not attend the court proceedings’، Hisaan said such an arrest is made as a step taken against an individual for not attending a court proceeding upon called for.
In addition، Hisaan said the lawyers do not accept the arrest warrant was issued by the court conforming with the law.
