Pakistani High Commissioner to the Maldives Vice Admiral (Rtd) Syed Khawar Ali Shah has said that Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Shareef was to visit the Maldives this year.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held in Hotel Jen to mark the 76th Pakistan Day.
In his address, the High Commissioner reflected on the enduring partnership between the two nations, adding that he will seek to further enhance this partnership.
The High Commissioner also reflected on the issues faced by Pakistan due to the US led invasion of Afghanistan, noting that Pakistan was a record holder, housing 3.5 million refugees from Afghanistan.
He added that Pakistan had in the past faced issues of militants, but now the problem was being resolved and peace was being established.
He said that Pakistanis were highly talented and the work of many Pakistanis were appreciated and valued by other nations.
The High Commissioner noted that Pakistan was rich in natural resources. He further noted that in spite of the challenges Pakistan was becoming a developed nation.
Many religious scholars in the Maldives are Pakistani educated.
