Maldives welcomes investments from abroad- Minister Adeeb

Maldives is open for investments from abroad and welcomes such investments، says Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb.
In the ceremony held at Hotel Gen to sign the agreement with a company of China، CGL Investment Pvt Ltd، to develop a five-star hotel in Vaav atoll Kunaavashi، Minister Adeeb said that Maldives welcomes investments from abroad.
“Maldives is open for investments. This beautiful Maldives will welcome all.” said Adeeb.
Noting that today is the first day that a private investor from China is assigned to develop a resort، Minister Adeeb pointed out that it is a good start. Minister further said that the agreement accounts for the trust of the private sector of China in Maldives.
“This investment is an example for other private companies in China. This is another good step for Tourism sector.”
Minister Adeeb said that the incumbent government is trying to bring more investments from China and noted that China is an important part of Tourism in Maldives.
Speaking at the ceremony CGL’s chairman assured that the Kuraavashi project will increase tourists arriving from China to Maldives and said that the investment will bring development to Maldives and China.
“We invested on Maldives since Maldives is a country Chinese people want to come and opportunities are available here. The investment will bring development to Maldives and China.” said the chairman.
He said that every Chinese person wish to come to Maldives at least once in a year and indicated that 30 percentage of tourists arriving to Maldives are Chinese people.
Kunaavashi has been leased to CGL for 50 years and the construction will begin on September and finish within 14 months.
The resort developed titled as Kunaavashi Island and Spa، is the first project invested by a private Chinese investor in Maldives.
