Foreign Minister calls to ‘leave our domestic issues to Maldives’

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon has called to leave the domestic issues in Maldives to be resolved in the Maldives.
Speaking to Voice of America on Tuesday، Dunya noted that there are domestic institutions and commissions established in the Maldives to resolve issues، and if Maldives require assistance، it will appeal to the international community.
Highlighting on former president Mohamed Nasheed’s case، Dunya said that it is not acceptable for him to appeal to international community while there are independent commissions in Maldives، as ‘he claims his trial was unjust and politically motivated’.
Dunya also noted that while Nasheed had the legal rights to appeal in domestic courts regarding his sentence، he never appealed till date.
In addition، Foreign Minister noted that the terrorism charges pressed against Nasheed، and the sentence issued on him are within the constitutional framework of the Maldives. She said if a crime is committed، everyone should be equal while facing justice.
