At a time when the Kaashidhoo constituency seat originally contested by both the parties, a statement by Jumhoory Party has pledged full support to the PPM candidate Ahmed Shareef for the Thimarafushi bi-election. “Jumhoory Party urges all the members of the party in the Thimarafushi constituency to support PPM’s Ahmed Shareef and elect him for the seat,” the party statement read. While Jumhoory Party had issued a statement in support of Shareef for the Thimarafushi constituency, PPM had earlier issued a statement supporting the candidature of Abdulla Jabir from Jumhoory Party for the Kaashidhoo constituency. Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate for the Thimarafushi constituency is the former Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Musthafa. However, Mohamed Waheed ‘Wadde’ Ibrahim who was to contest for the Kaashidhoo constituency on a PPM ticket had stated that he would not support Jabir in the bi-elections and disputed the decision by his party.
