Former President Mohamed Nasheed –who is serving 13 years in prison due to proven terrorism charges– has been placed in home detention for the remainder of the sentence، says a senior associate of Nasheed.
Due to health issues، he was transferred to home detention two months back، however، the period ended last Tuesday، the official said.
The official told media that the notice on changing Nasheed fully to home detention – which states that Nasheed is permanently on home detention for the remainder of the sentence – was handed over to Nasheed on 19 July.
Commenting on the matter، Correctional Services said no decisions have been yet made on the transfer، however، will be finalized after analyzing doctors’ reports.
Nasheed was sentenced to jail for 13 years، after being proven guilty of the terror charges pressed against him for abducting criminal court chief justice Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed in 2012، during Nasheed’s administration.
However، he was later changed to home detention after doctor prescribed to change him to a “Stress free” environment.
The prison sentence on him was appealed in High Court last Thursday.
