Niger and Chad soldiers turned the tables around on Boko Haram، as armed military forces had driven off the extremist mercenary group from Damasak.
Proving to be another victory for the soldiers on a campaign to fend off the occupying force of Boko Haram who had seized a large part of Southeast Niger regions.
The town of Damasak، which lies a few kilometers of Niger’s border came under control of army over the weekend، according to Niger Army’s spokesman، Colonel Michel Ledru.
A heavy exchange of gunfire ensued between the army and rebel fighters، killing 228 of the latter and one fatality on the army’s end. Vehicles across the path of violent exchange were battered and riddled down with bullets.
The town had already been evacuated with little to none civilians running amok the chaotic region.
Post the victory، a group of Chadian troops were seen transferring confiscated weaponry from Boko Haram into a pick-up truck، which were then taken to helicopters to be transported into Niger.
Boko Haram’s arsenal confiscated by Niger and Chad troops included، AK47 assault rifles، 50-caliber guns، RPGs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
