Will donate LED bulbs to all households: Ambassador

Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Fu Kang has said that China will assist the country in its efforts to go green and that they will distribute LED bulbs to all households.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony to hand over 210,000 LED lights. The total cost of the LED lights amounted to MVR 10 million.
He also announced that in addition to the LED lights, China will donate resources to install renewable energy systems in 10 homes and that an additional 250,000 LED bulbs will be donated to the country.
“This is part of the grant aid provided by Chin to the Maldives and Maldivians. China recognizes that Maldives is the Chair of AOSIS. China will always be a partner for the protection of the fragile nature of the country,” he said.
He also reflected on the close relationship between the two countries, adding that Maldives had strongly benefited over the years from this. He also reflected on the strong relationship between the leaders of the two nations.
Ambassador stressed that the protection of environment rested on lessening the dependence on fossil fuels and non-renewable energy sources. He noted that China was working to reduce the dependency as well, stressing that a united effort was required for this.
The Ambassador remarked that in 2013, China had donated 260,000 LED lights which are being used in many homes and institutions, contributing to lower electricity bills. He also remarked that most of the bulbs used to light the streets were LED bubs, reducing the dependency on non-renewable oil.
