The People’s Majlis member for Dhiddhoo electorate، Abdul Latheef Ahmed، has ‘dumped’ the pledge he made to the youth of Dhiddhoo، said the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
In a statement issued by MDP Dhiddhoo Office، the party said it condemns MP Latheef’s decision not to hold the Rf. 100000 football tournament in the Eid-al-Adha، as he had pledged before the parliament election.
The statement said that MP Latheef has devalued the youth of the island، and noted that several local teams had spent a lot and prepared for the tournament، however، MP Latheef cancelled the tournament saying that the football ground is set to be renovated.
MDP also noted that although MP’s reason for not holding the tournament was due to the renovation of the football ground، no government institute had announced the renovation officially.
“[…] therefore، many youth believe that the claim of renovating the football grounds is an excuse to not hold the football tournament.”
Opposition MDP severely criticized MP Latheef in the statement.
