Youth Minister and Economic Council member Zuhoor has said that the World Bank had advised to slash the incentives granted to the public.
He made the statement speaking to press in the President’s Office, stating that the body had called to slash the incentives such as subsidies given to electricity, food subsidies and Aasandha services. He said that even though this was the recommendation, the Government had always prioritized on serving the citizens without causing them additional inconveniences.
He stressed that development will be brought in without slashing subsidies.
Zuhoor assured that none of the projects will not hike taxes, raise inflation or cut any current incentives. He further assured that development will not be brought in at the expense of the welfare of the public, adding the Government had the skill and capability to generate such a feat.
Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee, today called in for a revision on the procedures of issuing subsidies on basic food staples, noting that the average Maldivian did not buy the state subsidized rice. The bulk of the subsidized rice was bought by expatriates.
