The case requesting to remove Male’ City Council Mayor Mohamed Shihab and Deputy Mayor Shifa Mohamed, whose council seats were confirmed without election, has been withdrawn.
The case was filed on behalf of three Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) members of the council, by Mahchangolhi South Council Member Ibrahim Mamnoon.
The case was scheduled for today’s council meeting, but Mamnoon announced at the meeting that the case has been recalled.
Speaking to Sun Online, he refused to comment on why the case was recalled.
Sources have told Sun Online that the case was filed after some council members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), to which Shihab and Shifa belong, also agreed to vote to remove them from the council.
The MDP members later refused to vote in favour of removing them.
