Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has revealed all assistance required by the Maldivians evacuated from China to India will be provided, with arrangements made to contact their families.
Seven Maldivians who were in Wuhan City, the epicentre of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, have been evacuated to India. The Maldivians will be kept in India at a quarantine facility where they will be monitored as per international health guidelines.
Speaking in a press conference, the foreign minister said seven Maldivians have been taken to India according to the instructions from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The minister said all Maldivians have safely reached the Chhawla camp in India, adding they will be monitored according to international standards. He stated they will be provided with mobile sims and other assistance required, assuring the situation is closely being monitored.
Furthermore, the foreign minister added the remaining 43 Maldivians in China are also closely monitored. He appreciated the assistance provided by the Government of India in evacuating the Maldivians on a special flight, at the same time acknowledging the cooperation and assistance extended by the Government of China in facilitating the evacuation of the Maldivian nationals.
