More than 80,000 tourists from the United Kingdom have visited the Maldives, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, establishing the nation as the third-largest source country for tourist arrivals.
By 2 June, exactly 80,580 tourists from the United Kingdom had travelled to the Maldives, data indicate. For the year to date, the highest volume of tourists has travelled from China, while the second-largest contingent has originated from Russia. In a detailed breakdown, China leads the market with 144,931 tourists, Russia follows with 126,712, and the United Kingdom accounts for 80,580.
A cumulative total of 951,222 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, marking a 4.1 per cent decline against the 992,225 tourists who arrived during the corresponding period last year. Although arrivals experienced a downturn in connection to the war in the West Asia region, those numbers are currently increasing. More than 139,000 tourists arrived during May, representing a 3 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
Of the visitors this year, more than 600,000 spent vacations at resorts, more than 200,000 stayed in guesthouses, and over 22,659 chose hotels. To accommodate these visitors, 1,284 facilities are operational, with a combined bed capacity exceeding 67,000.
