17,000 tonnes of flood water pumped out from Male'

Following the continuous heavy rains in Male' yesterday, Maldives National Defence Force has pumped out 16,911 tonnes of flood water out of the streets of Male' and provided assistance to dozens of residences across the country.
Nearly all streets of Male' were flooded in the heavy rains yesterday. A special MNDF team provided assistance to households, and stacked sandbags an entryways of residences at risk of flood water seeping in, MNDF said.
MNDF also placed pumps at various areas across Male' under their dewatering efforts. They said that the streets have now been drained of flood water.

The dewatering efforts have now been halted, with a total of 16,911 tonnes of water having been pumped out from eight areas through the use of 19 pumps.
Assistance was provided to 131 households in Male', with 976 sand bags stacked.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) also provided temporary shelter to 40 individuals from four houses due to flood related sewage leaks.
MNDF Area Command were also active in K. Huraa, K. Guraidhoo, K. Himmafushi, K. Thulusdhoo, K. Maafushi, ADh. Maamigili, Dh. Meedhoo, F. Nilandhoo and L. Isdhoo to provide assistance in draining flood water and stacking sand bags.
Male' recorded 223.5mm rainfall within those twenty four hours.
MET Office has presently issued a White Alert from Baa Atoll to Dhaalu atoll, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and rough seas predicted.
