Zammath tops President’s six nominees for BroadCom

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated six candidates for the vacant seat at the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom).
The tenure of incumbent BroadCom member Aminath Ameena is set to expire on June 14th.
President Muizzu, via a letter to the Parliament on Monday, nominated six candidates who qualify for the role, ranked based on his preference.
They are:
Zammath Ahmed Waheed, Mala, GDh. Thinadhoo
Ibrahim Ashraf, V. Mashaveli
Moosa Rilwan, M. Haavilaa
Zeena Zahir, Athirige, GDh. Gadhdhoo
Ali Yusuf, Baarana, Lh. Hinnavaru
Shimla Ahmed, Aastralge, S. Hithadhoo
Zammath, who ranks first on the list, currently serves as Islamic Ministry Chief Executive Officer. Prior to this, she has worked as a journalist at state media, Public Service Media (PSM), and private media outlets. She holds a Masters degree in the field of journalism.
Fourth on the list is Zeena, who served as the first managing director of PSM during the current administration. She resigned from the role for undisclosed reasons on August 23, 2024, after less than a year on the job.
The candidates will be vetted by the Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee. The Committee’s decision will be subject to a floor vote.
BroadCom presently comprises of six members:
