President Muizzu Inaugurates Dialysis Services in Four Additional Atolls

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated dialysis services in four additional atolls across the Maldives. The President launched the service at a special ceremony held to mark World Health Day.
The government is working hard to strengthen the Maldives’ healthcare sector, and the President has initiated the establishment of dialysis centres in the atolls. As part of these efforts, dialysis services were officially launched in four additional islands at Thursday’s ceremony. Dialysis services were launched at Velidhoo Health Centre in Noonu Atoll, Muli Regional Hospital in Meemu Atoll, Thaa Atoll Hospital and Gaafu Alifu Atoll Hospital.
Earlier in February, a similar dialysis centre was established at the Amina Dhiyo Health Centre in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll. A dialysis centre was also established at the Shaviyani Atoll Hospital in 2024.
According to the Ministry of Health, dialysis services is now available in all but five atolls of the country. The service is not currently available in Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, Vaavu, Faafu, and Dhaalu Atoll. The Ministry said dialysis services will be launched in these remaining atolls before the end of the current year.
The government aims to provide dialysis services in islands where a significant number of patients require the service. The government also aims to further strengthen the health system in the Maldives and provide easy access to services for every citizen to quality health services in their own islands.
