President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged Nolhivaran Island Council to waive fees on the island’s agricultural plots. He made the appeal while addressing residents during his ongoing tour of South Thiladhunmathi Atoll.
The President highlighted that Nolhivaran is predominantly an agricultural island, with most families relying on farming for their livelihoods. Waiving fees on agricultural plots, he said, would enhance the economic benefits enjoyed by these families. He described this as a sincere request from the Administration and assured that the Government would provide all necessary permits and support to enable the Council to implement the measure.
Noting the size of Nolhivaran, the President stressed that all development initiatives for the island have been planned in alignment with the Administration’s sustainable development policies. In line with this, he announced the commencement of a 30-bed hospital development this year. Until the hospital is operational, he pledged additional resources for the existing health centre. He further committed to installing electricity cables for agricultural plots, relocating the power house, and pursuing a sustainable solution to the island’s energy challenges.
The President also revealed that the planned fitness and recreation centre would be developed as an indoor sports complex, while the Nolhivaran football ground would be upgraded to meet FIFA standards.
Speaking on the education sector, President Dr Muizzu said that further infrastructure elements would be incorporated into the ongoing multi-purpose hall project.
In addition, agreements were signed today for the construction of an agriculture supply shop, harbour expansion, coastal protection, and road development.
Concluding his remarks, the President assured that the Administration remains committed to the timely completion of both ongoing and planned projects.
