President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the former Dharumavantha School building has been demolished to make way for a new building for Majeedhiya School.
The President made the remarks while speaking at a ceremony held to inaugurate the monument marking the 100th anniversary of Majeedhiya School. He said the new school building will be constructed on the same site and will include 40 classrooms, alongside several new facilities planned for the institution.
“As part of this project, some classrooms will be developed as the Maldives’ first smart classrooms,” President Mohamed Muizzu said. He also said there are plans to establish a National Education Museum on the site, which would showcase the history of education in the Maldives and honour the legacy of the school and its top students.
The Ministry of Education said the engineering and design work for the new building has been completed. According to the ministry, construction is expected to begin within the next two months.
Officials said the project is part of broader efforts to modernise educational infrastructure and enhance learning environments in the capital.
