Maldives set to participate in Belgrade Expo 2027

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has now formally confirmed the Maldives’ participation in the Belgrade Expo 2027, which is set to bring together countries from across the world.
An agreement was signed in Belgrade by VMC’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Shiuree, following the Second Annual Planning Meeting for the international event. The move marks a shift from early planning to the next phase of preparations for the Maldives’ presence at the Expo.
The global exhibition will take place in the Belgrade, Serbia, from the 15th of May to the 15th of August 2027. Organisers say more than 120 countries are expected to take part, with over four million visitors anticipated during the three-month event.
The Expo will be held under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.” Participating countries are expected to explore ideas around international cooperation, culture, and innovation through themes including Play for Progress, Play Together, and The Power of Play.
For the Maldives, the platform is seen as an opportunity to reach new audiences across the Balkan region and the wider European market. Plans are underway to highlight the country’s tourism industry, environmental protection efforts, and cultural heritage.
Speaking after the agreement was signed, VMC’s Managing Director Shiuree said preparations are being coordinated with several government institutions to ensure a unified national presence.
Visit Maldives will now work with Expo organisers and national stakeholders to develop the concept for the Maldives’ pavilion and programme, which will present the country’s tourism, culture, and environmental initiatives to a global audience.
