No interruptions have occurred in establishment of sewerage and water systems in Addu City، Minister of Environment and Energy، Thoriq Ibrahim said.
Answering to a question posed by Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam، regarding the sewerage and water system projects in Addu City، Minister Thoriq water system projects in some islands of Addu City will be completed within this year.
“Water system project in Maradhoo-Feydhoo is projected to be done this year. Meter installation under water project of central-Hithadhoo will be completed this year as well. Few other projects are set to finish within this year، and several projects will be commenced as well،” Thoriq said.
He further said that the sewerage project is in progress، adding that the physical works will commence by the beginning of next year as the design project will be done this year.
In addition، Minister Thoriq noted that while MDP government had contracted water and sewerage project for Rf. 231 million to Biwater International Limited، however، only paid Rf. 78 million. Minister said the matter should be audited.
Speaking on the motion، south-Hithadhoo MP Ali Nizar said 40% of the water and sewerage projects in Addu City have been completed.
