Committee responsible for monitoring government operations have taken off the case of Addu City electricity “black-outs” off their floor.
The government responsibility monitoring committee of People’s Majlis had dismissed the case following PPM and MDA members voting in favour of taking the case off the committee floor.
According the committee members، the case has been dismissed from their floor due to financial committee handling the issue as of now.
However، Addu City Meedhoo constituency member Rozaina Adam and Maradhoo constituency member shunned the claim at Majlis stating financial committee is currently checking an electricity faced throughout Maldives but not Addu in specific.
In addition to this، both members had highlighted the case presented regarding Addu city electricity black-outs discussed the rate of at which such black-outs occur and the monthly expense charged per resident over electricity has been a concerning factor over high price as well as different electricity charges incurred from residents living at different atolls.
Furthermore Rozaina noted the dismissal of the case from committee floor is unacceptable.
A member from ruling party spoke at the committee stating a special delegation from government had visited recently to Addu city and were met with opposition resistance movements، protesting against government but opposition members did not present themselves for a meeting to discuss the electricity issue faced by Addu city citizens.
This was rebutted by MP Rozaina who claimed the government delegation had not attempted to meet with the citizens of Addu City and committee members as well as delegation members are presenting falsified reports over the case.
