Mohamed Abdul Kareem (Rukuma), who has served within the senior management of several state-owned enterprises during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, has resigned from his post as Deputy Managing Director of Maldive Gas.
Rukuma was appointed as the DMD of Maldive Gas in July 2025 – marking his third transfer to a SOE. His first appointment was as DMD of the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO). But he was later transferred as DMD of Fenaka Corporation in August 2024, and then to Maldive Gas.
Rukuma confirmed to Sun that he resigned from Maldive Gas on Monday.
According to him, he is being appointed as the DMD of another SOE.
He did not specify which SOE he is being appointed to, or why he decided to leave Maldive Gas.
Maldive Gas, headed by teacher-turned-politician Abdulla Mohamed, has been grappling with allegations of mismanagement and corruption.
