President Muizzu extends National Day Greetings to Japan’s Emperor and Prime Minister

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sent separate messages of congratulations to Emperor Naruhito and Sanae Takaichi on the occasion of Japan’s National Day, reaffirming the Maldives’ appreciation for more than five decades of close friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
In his message to Emperor Naruhito, President Muizzu conveyed sincere good wishes on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives. He noted that relations between Malé and Tokyo have matured into a strong and trusted partnership since diplomatic ties were established over 50 years ago.
The President described Japan as a steadfast and reliable friend, highlighting its longstanding support for the Maldives’ development. He expressed his intention to further strengthen the partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration that would generate shared success and opportunity.
In a separate letter to Prime Minister Takaichi, President Muizzu reflected on the depth of bilateral ties, built through sustained cooperation and close people-to-people exchanges. He acknowledged Japan’s significant contributions to the Maldives’ development journey and said the enduring friendship between the two nations remains a cornerstone of their relationship.
The President also reiterated his commitment to elevating bilateral cooperation in the years ahead, with a focus on expanding areas of mutual interest and promoting shared progress.
Concluding his messages, President Muizzu wished both leaders good health and happiness, and conveyed his hopes for the continued prosperity and well-being of the people of Japan.
Japan marks its National Day annually on 23 February, celebrating the birthday of Emperor Naruhito.
