United Nations Resident Coordinator for the Maldives presents credentials to the President

The United Nations Resident Coordinator for the Maldives, Mr Hao Zhang, formally presented his credentials to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, during a ceremony held at the President's Office earlier today.
The newly appointed Resident Coordinator was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional Haiykolhu cultural procession, accompanied by the Drum and Trumpet Band of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
Following the formal presentation of credentials, President Dr Muizzu welcomed Mr Zhang to the Maldives and acknowledged the United Nations’ pivotal role in supporting key national priorities, including health, education, and human development. The President underscored the importance of sustained UN engagement in realising the Maldives’ ambition of becoming a fully developed nation by 2040. He further expressed his wish for close collaboration in implementing the recently ratified generational ban on tobacco products, as well as initiatives aimed at improving mental health and wellbeing.
This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ membership in the United Nations, an enduring partnership rooted in shared commitment to peace, development, and global cooperation.
