The new commission was created under the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Act.
The Civil Service Commission (CSC) announced that applications will be accepted until 2 p.m. on 28 October. Required forms and supporting documents must be submitted to the CSC, which has also confirmed that submissions will be received electronically at [email protected].
The role carries defined academic and professional requirements. Candidates must hold an undergraduate degree in journalism, broadcasting, policy-making, or management. Applicants may also qualify with at least five years of professional experience in the media sector.
Applicants cannot serve as editors or hold responsibility for any media outlet. They are also barred from occupying elected or appointed posts under the Constitution or existing law, and they must not be registered members of a political party.
The position offers a basic monthly salary of USD 1,329.44, with an additional living allowance of USD 972.77.
Appointments to the media commission’s governing structure have already been completed. The seven members are Abdul Azeez Ibrahim, Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed, Simaha Naseem, Hussain Saqeef, Mohamed Fursath, Safa Shafeeq, and Aminath Sarahath Izzath.
Attention now turns to the appointment of executive leadership. Parliament is responsible for selecting the commission’s president from among the appointed members, while the vice president will be chosen separately by a majority vote of the commission itself.
