The Supreme Court has scheduled to announce the verdict on the Dheebaajaa case on October 10.
Dheebaja Investment Private Limited filed a case against the state for canceling the agreement to provide ferry services in the northern province. The agreement with Dheebaja was cancelled during the administration of former President Mohamed Waheed.
In 2014, the Civil Court ordered the state to pay USD22.5 million in compensation. In 2018, the High Court quashed the civil court's verdict. However, the Supreme Court quashed the judgment in 2019 saying it was made against the procedure.
The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) sought a review of the Supreme Court's decision last year, which quashed the earlier decision and ruled that Dheebaja would have the opportunity to appeal against the High Court's decision not to pay compensation. Dheebaja appealed the case to the Supreme Court last year. The hearings on the case concluded in November last year and the verdict has now been scheduled.
