Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated he is in good health but may need to undergo additional surgery. He made the statement while launching an online Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) group on the social media application, Clubhouse, to celebrate the ruling party's 16th anniversary.
Speaking from Germany on Clubhouse, Nasheed cited doctors as saying that there are currently no issues regarding his internal organs. However, he said that the attack has injured his left ear, causing diminished hearing, adding the doctors have recommended surgery to fix the injury if it has not completely healed. He also said doctors have advised him to undergo a surgery to fix the numbness in the fingers on his right hand but added that he is reluctant to heed the advice.
Nasheed said various parts of the left side of his body are experiencing numbness and that it would take more time to heal. He added that he is currently working to return to the Maldives and that more work needs to be done to strengthen the national security of the country.
MDP celebrated its 16th anniversary on the morning of June 26 with a flag hoisting ceremony in Male' City. The MDP National Congress has approved a plan to celebrate the party's 16th anniversary for a month with various activities to be held across the country.
