President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday paid a visit to his home island, Hinnavaru of Faadhippolhu atoll for the first time since assuming office in November.
The unofficial visit was made during his tour to Noonu and Raa atolls.
His brother Moosa Mohamed Solih was the first one to welcome him at the island’s harbor where many of residents were gathered to greet him.
The President had gotten immense support from his home island during the Presidential polls in September. As such, he had garnered 1,259 votes from the island, with predecessor Abdulla Yameen having garnered only 956.
Before visiting Hinnavaru, President Solih visited Dhuvaafaru island, where he addressed residents on National Unity Day which is marked on the 26th of December every year ro remember the 2004 tsunami that swept over the Maldives.
During his visit to Dhuvaafaru, President Solih met with members of the island council as well as the council in Ungoofaaru island.
President Solih is set to visit Henbadhoo Island of Noonu atoll on Thursday, where he will launch sanitation services for island residents and later on meet with members of the island council.
