Hearing in ex-police commissioner's 'influencing official conduct' case set for Sunday

A hearing in the 'influencing official conduct' case against opposition Jumhooree Party (JP)’s deputy leader Abdulla Riyaz has been scheduled for Sunday.
The hearing is set for 12 pm.
If convicted, the former police commissioner could face a jail sentence of nine months and 18 days.
Riyaz has been charged with terrorism for his involvement in an alleged coup, as well as obstruction with 11 other opposition parliamentarians. These trials are currently ongoing at the Criminal Court.
In addition, MP Riyaz is currently serving a jail term of four months and 24 days on obstruction, for allegedly not allowing the police access to his mobile phone, when approached with a court order to do so. He was found guilty by the High Court, after being acquitted by the Criminal Court; the acquittal was appealed by the state.
