BML records MVR159 mln profit for third quarter

This is an increase of 38 percent from the previous quarter, which garnered a net profit of MVR 115 million (USD 7.5 million) . According to BML’s third quarter statistics report publicised on Thursday, their revenue for the last quarter was MVR 391.2 million (USD 25 million) , with an interest revenue of MVR 219.5 million (USD 14 million) . BML Third Quarter details: Operational profit – MVR 235.6 million (USD 15.3 million) Bad debts – MVR 23.3 million (USD 1.5 million) Profit before taxes – MVR 212.2 million (USD 13.8 million) The bank said they received a profit of MVR 118 (USD 7.7) per each share in the third quarter. BML attributed their staggering profit to their investments in providing banking services to all inhabited islands, enhancing their self-service banking and upgrading their branches during the past quarter. According to BML, their loans to the public and businesses for this year currently amounts to MVR 2.2 billion (USD 143 million) . “This is double the loans compared to last year. The state treasury has also exceeded the legal cap,” said BML’s press release. BML’s CEO and Managing Director Andrew Healy thanked BML employees for the achievement and expressed his satisfaction with the amount of bank loans for the year, stating it an indication of BML’s provision of financial aid to people’s education, businesses and housing.
