PG decides not to drop adultery charges against 15 year old mother
The last hearing of the case was cancelled following a request by the PG’s office asking for more time to see if there were any reasons to withdraw the fornication charges against the girl. PG's office had earlier stressed that the 15 year old claimed by the islanders to be sexually molested is being charged at the Juvenile court with fornication over another case which came to light during the investigation of the buried baby case. The baby born last June was found buried in the bath house of the 15 year old’s home. The child delivered out of wedlock was dead at the time of discovery. Charges have been filed against 15 year old’s mother and step-father over the deliberate murder of the baby. PG’s office wanted to cancel the hearing as charges had been raised against a person for engaging in sexual activity with an underage while holding a trustworthy position, hence the PG wants to ensure if there are any reasons to dismiss the fornication charges against the underage girl. An official of the PG’s office revealed that it has now been decided not to drop the charges against the girl. “We have decided to go ahead with the charges,” official said. The case of the sexually molested minor had sparked condemnation and concern from various institutions including the Gender and Human Rights Ministry. The case has also grabbed the attention of some of the international media. While the mother and step-father of the 15 year old are being charged with the deliberate murder of the baby, they are also facing other charges. In this regard, the man is facing charges of possession of pornography and sexually abusing a minor. The mother faces charges of concealing a crime.
