Criminal court has scheduled the sentencing of Adeeb and his two bodyguards Rikaz and Amir for tonight.
They are being charged for planting an IED inside the launch. The last hearing of the case was held behind closed doors for national security reasons. The hearing tonight is scheduled at 10:00 pm.
Presidential Launch Finifenma exploded last September while President Yameen was on board، en-route to Male’ from Hulhule. First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim and some other officials were injured during the explosion. However the President was unhurt.
State prosecutors said that Adeeb and his bodyguards used the launch on the night of 27th September and planted the IED that night. Witnesses testified saying that on that night Adeeb and his bodyguards stayed alone on the launch for sometime. Adeeb was given chance to produce defense witnesses however he was not able to get the defense witnesses within the time period he was given.
Currently Adeeb is serving 10 years for possession of a pistol. If convicted tonight he will be sentenced to more than 10 years in prison.
