Six Senses Laamu introduces sustainability camp for teens

Six Senses Laamu celebrated this year’s World Tourism Day on September 27 with a new sustainability camp that complements the resort’s junior marine biology program and the company-wide Climate Warriors effort.
It aims to give teenage visitors and their families insights into the sustainability initiatives and techniques used for the resort’s operations and provide a skillset for the daily improvements they can make at home, striving towards a more sustainable way of life. It covers the topics of “Zero Waste,” “Home Grown,” and “Nature Conservation.”
The three-day Sustainability Camp consists of two 90-minute sessions each day. Each topic has four sessions, so visitors can select two of them for the day’s activities. A designated guide, a team member with expertise in the subject, leads each session. The guide helps with crafts and workshops while imparting information and experience about the subject.
Greg Holder, Guest Education Coordinator of the Maldives Underwater Initiative, says: “Over time, we found that many teenagers were very interested in learning more about sustainability and marine conservation, but we didn’t have activities attractive for their age group. Our Sustainability Camp is a chance to share our insights, skills and, above all, our passion for nature and conservation to help shape the next generation of conservation heroes.”
Teenagers and their families who want to spend quality time together while learning more about living a more sustainable life after they return home are encouraged to sign up for the Sustainability Camp starting on September 27.
