President appoints judge Shaheed to JSC

Supreme Court judge Hussain Shaheed has been appointed as the newest member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
He was appointed to the commission on Monday as the second judge other than the Chief Justice, the President's Office said.
The last Supreme Court judge in JSC was former Justice Husnu Suood, who resigned after being suspended last month over a case being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Shaheed was appointed to the Supreme Court on March 19 after a seat became vacant with Suood's resignation.
Shortly after, the Judicial Council decided to appoint Shaheed to the JSC.
Before his appointment to the Supreme Court, Shaheed was the Chief Judge of the High Court. Prior to that, he was also a Criminal Court judge and Magistrate Judge in Feydhoo, Addu City.
Shaheed holds a Masters in Islamic Judicial Science and Sharia Policy and an LLB in Jurisprudence and Law.
Apart from the Supreme Court, JSC also has judges from the High Court and lower courts as well.
