President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that all planned upgrades to the L. Maavah health sector will enable the facility to provide services that meet hospital standards.
He made the announcement while addressing residents of the island during his ongoing visit to the inhabited islands of Hadhdhunmathi. Outlining plans to enhance the island’s Health Centre, the President revealed that an additional four-bed ward would be added, along with a laboratory and a public health unit. He stated that these works would be handed over to the contractor within this month. The President also noted that a dedicated sea ambulance would be stationed at Maavah. He emphasised that the ultimate goal was to equip the health centre with facilities and services equivalent to those of a hospital.
The President highlighted that 15 hectares of land are currently being reclaimed and pledged that a further 15 hectares would be added, bringing the total reclaimed area to 30 hectares. Once the reclamation project is complete, he assured that housing, water, sewerage, and electricity projects would be implemented.
As part of the President’s visit, several development initiatives were launched across the sports, education, fisheries, and road development sectors. This included the commencement of physical work on eight projects and the formalisation of agreements for three additional ones. The President assured that all projects would adopt a citizen-centred approach, with a strong focus on timely completion.
Concluding his address, the President noted that establishing a second airport in the atoll would significantly enhance transportation, stimulate economic growth, and promote tourism development. He added that the Government would soon announce the airport’s location, assuring residents that his presidential pledge would be fulfilled.
