The Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has confirmed that seven sports development projects will commence in Kulhudhuffushi City this year, according to Kulhudhuffushi South Constituency MP Mohamed Farhath (Farey).
In a Facebook post, Farey stated that both parliamentary representatives of Kulhudhuffushi City’s constituencies met with Minister Abdullah Rafiu to discuss the city’s sporting needs and infrastructure development. During the meeting, they deliberated on the current state of sports facilities and the requirements for establishing new sporting amenities in the city.
According to Farey, the Minister outlined seven major projects scheduled to begin by the end of 2025. These projects include:
• Construction of an indoor sports complex with a capacity of 1,500 people
• Establishment of a fitness center
• Commencement of synthetic track construction
• Development of a futsal ground at the Coral Ground
• Completion of pending work at Zigzag Ground
• Enhancement of outdoor gym facilities
• Installation of two additional indoor badminton courts
The meeting also addressed the ongoing development of Hirafushi Ground, which is currently being managed by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.
Farey emphasized that the main objective of these consultations is to expand sporting facilities in Kulhudhuffushi City and make sports services more accessible to residents. Kulhudhuffushi City has already established itself as a notable hub for various sports, including football, netball, handball, and badminton.
These developments mark a significant step forward in enhancing the sporting infrastructure of Kulhudhuffushi City.
