Ceiling collapses at Vashafaru school, injuring two students

Part of the ceiling of a newly built classroom at the public school in HA. Vashafaru collapsed on Thursday, resulting in injuries to two students.
A local told Sun the incident took place on Thursday morning.
According to the source, around 90 percent of the ceiling collapsed as ninth graders were in class.
The incident resulted in injuries to two schoolgirls.
They did not sustain serious injuries, but one of them was taken to the regional hospital in Kulhudhuffushi City for X-rays.
According to the source, the incident took place at a new building at the island’s school. Construction work had begun during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration and the building was completed in 2022.
Though only in use for less than three years, the new building was in need of repairs when the ceiling collapsed.
According to the source, repair works were supposed to be carried out in two phases, and material had already been sent to the island to start repairs when the ceiling collapsed.
