Police have denied allegation that President Nasheed’s arm and fingers had been broken.
Speaking in a press conference held at Iskandhar Koshi on Monday night, Superintendent of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed said that some reporters at the scene tried to interview president Nasheed when he was being taken to court, which was not allowed by the police officers who tried to lead him into the court building, and he refused to enter court and fell deliberately.
“Some people suspect that his arm and some fingers were broken. But he did not get injuries as such” said Hamdhoon.
Hamdhoon noted that police had to face obstacles due to some reporters, when police tried to take Nasheed to the court forcefully after he refused to enter the Court and fell deliberately.
The trial which was scheduled for 4:00 p.m. was started at around 4:35 p.m. Nasheed was led into the court by police officers and his shirt was torn and he was limping when he walked in. His right arm was tied with a T-shirt and his tie as in those whose arm has got fractured.
As the trial was about to begin, he said he needs a lawyer to represent him.
He has been given three days to appoint a lawyer to represent him in court by Judge Abdulla Didi, who led the judges’ bench.
