Channel 13 – run by Media Ring Private Limited – reports its bank account has been frozen.
Finance Manager of Channel 13, Mohamed Niyaz has confirmed the news agency’s bank account has been frozen, but said the agency did not know the reason for the decision.
“The bank says it was instructed by MIRA [Maldives Inland Revenue Authority]. So we are calling MIRA to clarify it. We haven’t been able to clarify the specific reason yet,” said Niyaz.
Niyaz said the exact date when the bank account was frozen was unclear, but that the agency became aware of it when a cheque issued to another party was returned and they set out to find out the cause.
He said the account which was frozen was opened at Maldives Islamic Bank under the name of Media ring Private Limited.
