Since the majority of the nation's population is young people, Vice President Abdulla Jihad Wednesday called on the Maldivian youth to be steadfast in serving the nation.
During his address to the nation at the ceremony held in Gaafu Alif Villingili to mark this year’s National Day, the Vice President stated that National day was the occasion to recall and appreciate the national heroes who sacrificed for the sake of our nation.
He indicated that national day is a day to deliberate upon the country and be committed to serve.
The Vice President also shed light on the remarkable service provided to the nation by the day’s champion, Al-Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaan-ul Auzam and stated that his sacrifices will always be reminisced as one of the brightest acts in Maldivian history.
The Vice President stated that Al-Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaan-ul Auzam was a perfect example of putting the harmony of the country before one's own wellbeing.
While speaking at the ceremony, the VP pointed out the importance of peace in the progress of any nation.
He stated that if there is no peace in the country there will be no progress or development for that country.
During his speech the Vice President reminded Maldivians of the importance to be united in day to day undertakings in order to develop the country.
The Vice President lauded President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's transformational developmental agenda, highlighting that the past three years had marked escalating development within the nation.
He also expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to the President's initiatives to advance the nation.
