The EPA report issued yesterday based on research of the environment in the new Artificial Beach area says that the project would lead to negative environmental impacts.
Negative Impacts on the environment as per the report:
- Change to the traffic in the area
- Increase of waste created during and after the construction phase
- The construction noise affecting the nearby schools and hospital
- Inadequate water flow in the area leading to pollution
- Damage to the reef
- Safety issues concerning the people in and around the area
First things to be done when opening for the public as per the report:
- Life guards on duty
- Designated swimming area for children
- Cleaning the beach at least once a day
- Bring changes to the outer wall design if the water flow is inadequate
- Ensure that the water collected on the streets during rain does not go into that area
