Nasheed does not wish Commonwealth to compile report on his trial case

Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s lawyers team claimed that، Nasheed does not wish for Commonwealth to probe into Nasheed’s trial and compile report on it.
Mohamed Nasheed who is currently doing time، for being guilty of the wrongful apprehension and kidnapping of Criminal Court Chief Justice Abdullah Mohamed. Nasheed had been pressed with terrorism charges، of which he was found guilty by the state.
According to Nasheed’s lawyer team، a delegation dispatched from Commonwealth who are currently stationed in Maldives had visited the former president at his cell in Dhoonidhoo Jail، where the delegation members and Nasheed spoke over his trial. MDP’s leader، Nasheed had requested Commonwealth not to probe into the already finished matter، and had affirmed that compiling a report by Commonwealth will not bring any changes.
“President Nasheed had stated that Commonwealth need not to inquire any further details about the judicial system of Maldives، as they would be well acquainted with it by now، and had also requested Commonwealth not to probe into the matter as it is deemed worthless of time and effort in generating a report، which will not bring about any significant changes” Hassan Latheef، one of the members of Nasheed’s lawyer team stated.
According to Latheef، Nasheed had discussed about the difficulties and flaws of government administration system with Commonwealth.
“Despite all these comments، Nasheed believes that Commonwealth can play an active and profound role in bringing or help to bring a positive change to the Maldivian democratic and ruling system، and he wishes the organization will extend their aid in striving for the right change in the governing authority and governing system of Maldives” Latheef added further.
Nasheed has been advised not to share details about his trial with any party، and told to relay message to Commonwealth not to discuss regarding the case with Nasheed’s lawyer team، according to Latheef.
Mohamed Nasheed is currently serving a jail sentence of 13 years for being guilty of terrorism over the illegitimate kidnapping of Abdullah Mohamed.
