Toby Cadman, a Partner at Omnia Strategy LLP, has state that the Criminal Court ruling on former President Mohamed Nasheed need not to go for appeal and need not be submitted to the UN Working Group.
He made the statement speaking in a joint press conference held with the Maldivian Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
Cadman stated that the case submitted to the UN Working Group was not based on any facts and that they can prove that the case was a
fraudulent one.
Cadman said that he had reviewed the case and the Constitution of the nation. He added that the Government had granted all the rights to Nasheed, which amounted to more than the international best practices mandated.
Speaking in the press conference, Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon said that the Government had plenty of evidence to prove that Criminal Court Judge Abdullah Mohamed was arrested on Nasheed’s order. However, Nasheed had filed the case in UN Working Group, citing that Judge was arrested on the orders of then Home Minister and Defense Minister.
