ADK Hospital has stated that it will be able to do 90% of heart-related operations before the end of the year.
Speaking at a press conference held after the hospital’s first open-heart surgery, Dr. Mohamed Shafiu said that the surgery was conducted on a 25-year-old mother of three with mitral valve disease and that August 11 was a remarkable day for Maldives.
Shafiu said that normally people over 45 have heart attacks and that beating-heart surgery is done to fix the problems in valves outside the heart and that ADK’s bypass operation was such an operation.
He said that the only heart-related surgeries they are unable to do are heart failure surgeries, meaning that ADK has the capability to conduct every surgery except heart transplants.
He added that even now they have three heart operations scheduled and that ADK will soon be able to operate on people with congenital heart defects.
Noting that their cardiac center was opened in March, ADK’s managing director Ahmed Affal said that the hospital will become notable in the region for its medical operations.
ADK Hospital conducts open-heart surgery for MVR 90,000 and bypasses for MVR 77,000 with 65 percent of the amount being covered by Aasandha medical insurance.
