History central to nation’s future survival: President

The history of the country will remain one of the most compelling reasons for its survival in the years to come, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated.
He made the remarks in a post on social media to mark National History Day.
In his message, President Muizzu said that even a single sentence from stories of the past, a single photograph from the time of our ancestors, or a single ancient monument standing today can convey thousands of stories. Each of these, he noted, offers invaluable lessons and wisdom to guide the present generation.
The President emphasised that the nation’s history demonstrates that its people have lived on these islands for hundreds of years. He said that Dhivehi history would remain one of the most important foundations for the survival of the Maldives as an independent state.
National History Day has been observed annually since 2018. The day is marked to promote and preserve Dhivehi history by fostering a society that values its heritage, culture and traditions. It also serves to honour national heroes and recognise their service to the country.
